The forms that turn tallies into results

On election day, results flow up Kenya's administrative layers through a chain of statutory forms. Each form is a checkpoint where a result is recorded, signed, and transmitted. Campaigns that understand this chain can verify results as they're declared—and know exactly where a dispute would be raised.

Form Level Records
Form 34A Polling station The presidential result at a single polling station
Form 34B Constituency The consolidated presidential result for a constituency
Form 34C National The final national presidential tally
Form 35A/35B Station/constituency The equivalent chain for parliamentary and other races
Form 36 County County-level (e.g. governor, senator) results

The flow of a result

A polling-station's presiding officer completes Form 34A immediately after counting, signs it, and transmits a copy. Constituency returning officers then compile the constituency-wide Form 34B from the station-level 34As. The national tally (Form 34C) is the sum of all constituencies.

Every form is a verification opportunity. Agents trained to read and sign at each level are a campaign's first line of result-integrity defense.

Why your signature matters

If your agent did not sign the form, you have no standing to dispute the result it records. Train your agents to: read the form carefully, verify the numbers match their tallies, sign legibly, and keep a copy if possible. A signed copy is evidence; an unsigned claim is not.

What to watch for

Agents should flag immediately if: numbers do not add up, signatures are missing, the form is incomplete, or the presiding officer refuses to provide a copy. These are the moments when disputes are raised—not after the form has moved up the chain.
